16th Annual Spencer Cave Lecture
February 27 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm CST| Free
The network of routes known as the Underground Railroad extended through 14 Northern states and “the promised land” of Canada–beyond the reach of fugitive-slave hunters. Historians Dr. Spencer Crew and Dr. Matthew Pinsker will talk with Park University’s Dr. Timothy Westcott about the past, present and future initiatives to engage, teach and preserve local, regional and national historic sites related to the Underground Railroad.
The Spencer Cave Black History Month Lecture Series is named for Spencer Cave, born a slave at the start of the Civil War. In 1875, Cave moved to Parkville, and he would work for Park University for more than 70 years, inspiring respect from students and staff alike.
